The ADM4851ARZ is a differential line transceiver suitable for communication on high-speed, half-duplex and full-duplex data multipoint bus transmission lines. They are designed for balanced data transfer and conform to EIA standards RS-485 and RS-422.

The ADM4851ARZ is a half-duplex transceiver that shares differential lines and provides separate enable inputs and receivers for the drivers. The full-duplex ADM4851ARZ transceiver has dedicated differential line driver outputs and receiver inputs.

The device has a 1/8 unit load receiver input impedance, which allows up to 256 transceivers on a bus. Because only one driver must be enabled at any time, disabled outputs or powered-down drivers are tri-stated to avoid overloading the bus. The receiver input has a true fail-safe feature that ensures a logic high output when the input is open or shorted.
