The DRV8871DDARQ1 device is a brushed DC motor driver for printers, appliances, industrial equipment, and other small machines. Two logic inputs control the H-bridge driver, which consists of four N-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), capable of bidirectionally controlling the motor with peak currents up to 3.6A. Using current decay mode, the motor speed can be controlled by pulse width modulation (PWM) of the input. If both inputs are driven low, the motor driver will enter a low-power sleep mode.

The DRV8871DDARQ1 device features an advanced current regulation circuit that does not use an analog voltage reference or external sense resistor. This new solution uses standard low-cost, low-power resistors to set the current threshold. The device's ability to limit current to a known level significantly reduces system power requirements and eliminates the need for bulk capacitors to maintain a stable voltage, especially when the motor starts and stops.

The device provides comprehensive protection against faults and short circuits, including undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overcurrent protection (OCP), and thermal protection (TSD). After troubleshooting, the device will automatically resume normal operation.
