Product Description:

TPS65381AQDAPRQ1 device is a multi-rail power supply designed to power microcontrollers (MCUs) for safety-related applications in markets such as automotive and industrial. The device supports Texas Instruments' (TI) Hercules™ TMS570 MCU and C2000™ MCU families and various other MCUs with dual-core lockstep (LS) or loosely coupled architecture (LC).


TPS65381AQDAPRQ1 device integrates multiple power rails to power the MCU, controller area network (CAN) or FlexRay, and external sensors. The asynchronous step-down switch-mode power converter has internal FETs that convert the input supply (battery) voltage to a 6V pre-regulator output. This 6V pre-regulator powers the other regulators. The device supports wakeup via IGNITION or CAN transceiver.


For example, this integrated fixed 5V linear regulator with internal FETs can be used for CAN or FlexRay transceiver power supplies. The second linear regulator also has an internal FET and can optionally regulate the output voltage to 5V or 3.3V for the MCU I/O voltage.


TPS65381AQDAPRQ1  device contains an adjustable linear regulator controller that requires an external FET and resistive divider to regulate the adjustable voltage between 0.8V and 3.3V for the MCU core power supply.


The integrated sensor power supply can operate in tracking mode or adjustable output mode and includes short-to-ground and short-to-battery protection. Therefore, the regulator can supply power to sensors or electronic control units (ECUs) external to the module.


An integrated charge pump provides overdrive voltage to the internal regulator. The charge pump can also be used in reverse battery protection circuits by using the output of the charge pump to control an external NMOS transistor. When the device must operate at the lowest possible supply voltage, this solution supports operation at a lower minimum battery voltage than conventional battery reverse blocking diodes.


The device monitors all regulator outputs, battery voltage, and internal power rails for undervoltage and overvoltage conditions. The second bandgap reference is independent of the main bandgap reference and can be used for undervoltage and overvoltage monitoring in case any drift within the main bandgap reference is not detected. In addition, regulator current limit and temperature protection are implemented.


TPS65381AQDAPRQ1  device has monitoring and protection features including: watchdog with trigger mode and question and answer mode, MCU error signal monitor, clock monitor for internal oscillator, self-test for clock monitor, non-volatile CRC for memory, diagnostic output pins that allow the MCU to monitor the device's internal analog and digital signals, reset circuitry for the MCU, and an enable drive output that disables the fuse path or external power stage when a fault is detected. A built-in self-test (BIST) automatically monitors device functionality at startup. Dedicated diagnostic states allow the MCU to check the TPS65381A-Q1 monitoring and protection functions.
