Product Description:
The ISO7221MDR family of devices are dual-channel digital isolators. To facilitate PCB layout, the channels are oriented in the same direction in ISO7220x and opposite in ISO7221x. These devices feature logic input and output buffers separated by TI's silicon dioxide (SiO2) insulating gate, providing 4000 VPK. When used with isolated power supplies, these devices block high voltages and isolated grounds, and prevent noise currents on the data bus or other circuits from entering the local ground or causing interference or damage to sensitive circuits.
The ISO7221MDR conditions and converts a binary input signal to a balanced signal, which is then differentiated by a capacitive isolation barrier. Across this isolation barrier, differential comparators can receive logic transition information and then set or reset flip-flops and output circuits accordingly. The circuit will send periodic update pulses across the isolation barrier to ensure that the DC level output is normal. If this DC update pulse is not received every 4µs, the input is assumed to be unpowered, or not actively driven, and the fail-safe circuit drives the output to a logic-high state.
The ISO7221MDR low capacitance capacitors and resulting time constant provide high speed operation with signaling rates ranging from 0Mbps (DC) to 150Mbps (signal rate on the line is the number of voltage transitions per second, expressed in bps). A-Option, B-Option, and C-Option devices have TTL input thresholds and a noise filter on the input to prevent transient pulses from being passed to the device's output. M-option devices feature CMOS VCC/2 input thresholds, no input noise filter, and additional propagation delay.
The ISO7221MDR family of devices requires two 2.8V (C-grade), 3.3V, 5V supplies, or any combination of these supplies. All inputs are 5V tolerant and all outputs are 4mA CMOS when powered from a 2.8V or 3.3V supply
The ISO7221MDR family of devices operates over an ambient temperature range of –40°C to +125°C.
