The AM6421BSFGHAALV is the latest addition to Sitara™'s family of industrial-grade heterogeneous Arm® processors, purpose-built for industrial applications such as motor drives and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that require a unique combination of real-time processing and communication and application processing. The AM64x combines two instances of the TSN-enabled Sitara device gigabit PRU-ICSSG with up to two Arm® Cortex®-A53 cores, up to four Cortex-R5F MCUs, and one Cortex-M4F MCU.
The AM6421BSFGHAALV is designed to deliver outstanding real-time performance with a high-performance R5F core, tightly coupled memory banks, configurable SRAM partitioning, and dedicated low-latency paths to and from peripherals, enabling fast data transfer into and out of the SoC. This deterministic architecture allows the AM64x to handle the tight control loops in servo drives, while peripherals such as FSI, GPMC, PWM, delta-sigma decimation filter and absolute encoder interface help enable many different architectures in these systems.
The AM6421BSFGHAALV Cortex-A53 provides the powerful computing elements necessary for Linux applications. Linux and real-time (RT) Linux are provided through TI's Processor SDK Linux, which is updated annually with the latest long-term support (LTS) Linux kernel, boot loader, and Yocto file system. The AM64x helps bridge the Linux world and the real world by providing isolation between Linux applications and real-time data streams through configurable memory partitioning. The Cortex-A53 can be assigned to work strictly in the DDR with Linux, while the internal SRAM can be split into various sizes for the Cortex-R5F to be synthesized or used alone.
The AM6421BSFGHAALV provides flexible industrial communication capabilities including a full protocol stack for EtherCAT sub-devices, PROFINET devices, EtherNet/IP adapters and IO-Link masters. The PRU-ICSSG further provides the capabilities required for gigabit and TSN-based protocols. In addition, the PRU-ICSSG supports other interfaces in the SoC, including delta-sigma decimation filters and absolute encoder interfaces.
