According to reports, the operating system running in Apple's upcoming AR/VR headset is called "xrOS", which is the version of the system originally planned to be called "RealityOS" or "rOS".
Judging from the current revelations, Apple has already begun preparations for the release of this headset, which is expected to be released sometime in 2023. It is said that this product will have a unique system belonging to the series, just like Apple TV and Apple Watch, and it will also have a dedicated App Store.
It is worth mentioning that the headset that Apple is developing focuses on "mixed reality" like Microsoft HoloLens, which can take into account both augmented reality and virtual reality.
Rumors suggest that the headset will come preloaded with new versions of software and systems like Maps and iMessages. These apps are said to be optimized for AR/VR, and Apple is also working on a software development kit for the headset so that third-party developers can provide third-party apps for it.
Bloomberg said that although Apple used "rOS" as an internal code name during the development process, xrOS is not actually a common name.
In addition to confirming "xrOS" to unnamed sources, Bloomberg also found that there is currently a shell company called Deep Dive LLC that has registered the "xrOS" name in multiple countries. Apple often uses shell companies to secretly register trademarks for products that are not yet on the market.
