ON Semiconductor, a leading global semiconductor company, recently announced a partnership with Israel's Ride Vision to develop advanced safety solutions for motorbike riders. CAT warns riders of impending hazards on the road in a timely manner, avoiding a high percentage of crashes and helping to save lives.
Two cameras containing AR0147AT image sensors are used in each system, mounted on the front and rear of the motorbike. The cameras capture high-quality images and transmit them to a small on-board processing unit that uses Ride Vision's proprietary and unique algorithms for two- and three-wheeled vehicles to provide riders with 360-degree blind-free collision warnings in real time.
We are excited about how this collaboration will help improve road safety for all riders," said Ride Vision's founder and chief executive officer (CEO). By combining ON Semiconductor's family of high dynamic range sensors with our own technology, we can provide the highest level of safety for motorbike riders."
Modern advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) have been used in cars for decades and various regulatory bodies around the world have introduced regulations mandating the use of safety-oriented technologies aimed at reducing car driver fatalities. However, these regulations have not been enforced on motorbike users, who account for more deaths than motorists each year.
Motorbikes and riders travel in the same traffic and weather conditions as other motorists, but there has not been the same level of safety mechanisms in place to protect them," said ON Semiconductor's Vice President and General Manager of its Automotive Perception business. Our partnership with Ride Vision to develop this advanced safety solution changes that by providing motorbikes with the same high performance, high dynamic range image sensors as passenger cars. Keeping all road users safe is the most important thing to ultimately achieve the Vision Zero accident."
Ride Vision users can customise the level of warning they wish to receive in their personal app and have access to a three-hour continuous loop video of all their riding, which facilitates insurance claims and leisure.Ride Vision is currently the only commercially available Advanced Rider Assistance System (ARAS) designed for two- and three-wheeled vehicles and has created a buzz in selected markets around the world, including Israel, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and soon to be in the USA.
The AR0147AT is a member of ON Semiconductor's Hayabusa sensor family with scalable resolution and high dynamic range with LED Flicker Reduction (LFM) and is already in volume production.
