TOSHIBA (Toshiba), Japan's largest semiconductor manufacturer, the second largest integrated motor manufacturer, is affiliated to the Mitsui Group.

Toshiba, formerly known as Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd., was formed by the merger of Shibaura Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd. in 1939; it has gone through a long history of 140 years since its establishment in 1875.

In 2018, Toshiba sold its laptop business to Sharp. In 2016, Sharp was subordinated to Taiwan's Hon Hai for business reconstruction. This became the first case of a major Japanese motor manufacturer being acquired by a foreign company.

In December 2019, Sony announced that it had purchased Toshiba’s image sensor business for 19 billion yen (approximately RMB 989.9 million).
